Truck Driver Training Program with Externship

I took the Truck Driver Training Program with Externship and was able to pay for it with a combination of sponsorship from Hired, a non-profit employment organization, and a low interest State loan. The staff at Transportation Center for Excellence was really nice and willing to work with students and explain trucking information. They seemed like they enjoyed it. I had the pleasure to learn from instructors who were great, very understanding and willing to answer any questions the students had.

They were always joyful and never had an attitude. And if you had a problem with something they always worked with you to get over it. Above all, two instructors that stood out the most, were Ryan for his advice and three second tip on clutching, and Gerry for his patience and pointers on backing.

I learned a lot about double clutching, backing and the correct way to drive truck. I have a better outlook on the industry. I loved how both the staff and instructors treated everyone as if they were family and were always smiling and cheerful.

Before graduating, I was pre-hired with Werner Trucking. Right now I'm driving over the road with them and will be switching to a dedicated route soon, which will provide more home time and a predictable schedule. I like working for Werner because they are willing to work with a person.

So far everybody I've worked with has been very nice and cooperative. I like what I do because it's like getting paid to see the country. I've already been from the east coast to the west coast and back. I also like getting to meet new people and have new experiences everyday.

This job is more enjoyable than my last one, it's a lot less stress and I answer to myself. My son even gets excited about my job. He has always liked trucks and now he gets to be in and around them. In the future he will be able to come with me when he is on vacation from school.
