“Before even graduating from TCE, I was pre-hired with Werner. The staff took care of everything that was needed to get a job with them. I drove OTR, dedicated and regional routes with them for a couple of years. I eventually became a trainer and made some pretty good money doing it. One year I took the first few months off for vacation and still grossed $57-58,000. Now I’m working happily with Dart, driving locally as an owner operator and going home every night to see my family. I deliver general commodities and I can choose my own hours and how many hours I want to work. They don’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do. The people are nice and if you have a problem they will help you out. I’ve had no bad experiences. I’m making up to $2,500/week and I get medical benefits, safety bonuses and I can choose my own vacation time. Before Transportation Center for Excellence, I was working here and there and taking some college classes, but I was always looking for something better. At 23, I think I’m doing pretty well. Truck driving gives me a lot of freedom and I make very good money. It’s helped my family a lot, I’m now paying off my debts and I’ve been able to help my relatives here and in Mexico, including my grandparents. If I hadn’t gone through the training at TCE I wouldn’t be enjoying the feedom I have now and if it weren’t for them, I might not have been able to eventually own my own company.”

“I’m now making twice what I was before I started training.”

“As an 18-year-old female I would encourage anyone of any age, especially females, to come here. Now I’m a professional truck driver and as soon as I hear that someone wants to become a truck driver I will refer him or her to TCE”

“After 9/11, the economy and job market in the IT industry bottomed out. I wanted a job that was not dependant on a fluctuating economy so I made the transition to the transportation industry.”

“After training with Transportation Center for Excellence I got a job working for Hernandez Trucking. At 23 years old and after only a few months driving with them I’m now an owner operator. I used to drive tow truck and enjoyed that so I decided to get a Class A license. I took the four-week program at Transportation Center for Excellence and thought it was a good amount of training to help a student be ready to test.
The training was excellent and I liked all the instructors. They were patient, had a great attitude and worked very well with all the students. The staff helped with all areas of training no matter what the issue was. I learned how log books work and a lot more about safety – than I never even thought of.
I didn’t know what an important responsibility driving a truck was. Everyday I use the training I got, like the helpful tips and confidence they gave me. I tell everyone I talk to about Transportation Center for Excellence.
I like where I work because of the emphasis they put on safety and maintenance. I take pride in doing a good job and being a safe driver and I have more self-confidence now. The work is fun and exciting and I learn new information everyday.
I like seeing new places and things and meeting new people in the trucking industry. I have more independence than at my last job and no supervisor watching over me!”

“In Ethiopia I used to drive a passenger bus, but I wanted to learn how to drive a truck to make a better living. I came to America 3 ½ years ago and since then I’ve gotten a 2-year degree in General Mechanics. I was doing a variety of odd jobs before I found out about Transportation Center for Excellence. Now I make $40,000 a year driving truck and my wife is able to stay home and take care of our child. The training was high quality and I liked everything about it, it was perfect. The most important thing I learned was how to drive safely. The people were very nice. The instructors were very experienced and patient and gave me courage. They were friendly, family oriented and offered helpful advice. They joked around making the training fun. The staff treated everyone equally and were very helpful. I’m very proud to be trained at TCE. I was hired with an excellent company, Gainey Transportation, 3 days after graduation and the training helped greatly with my job. I started out driving over the road with them and now I do local and regional driving with Fleming Food Service, delivering food to convenience stores and gas stations. Truck driving is great and I’m very happy with my job. I really like the company I work for and they offer overtime and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, vacation, paid holidays, sick time and 401K.”
